The sides of the clock are also porcelain. One side the porcelain has a crack in, it is solid and sturdy in every way and does not move or affect the structure or stability of the clock in any way. The central sevres plaque is 3 by 5 inches not counting the outer porcelain outside the beading. The clock face and bottom porcelain piece has inlaid jewels which appear to be rubies. The back cover is missing but i have one to replace the missing piece but have never placed it on the clock.
The finial is not original to the piece. The works are french, but i do not see a maker other than impressed numbers. The clock chimes and runs, however it only runs a short while and stops. The works may not sit perpendicular exactly which is the only way they will keep running. I have never tried to shim the feet to accomplish this as i do not care if it runs or not.
It is very heavy and weighs about 38 pounds. This is a very substantial and important piece.
